Alright. A cousin who is once removed means that they are your parents’ or your childrens’ cousin. The first number (first cousin, second cousin, fifth cousin) refers to the point in the family tree where it splits. A first (normal) cousin shares both of your grandparents. Your First cousin would be your childrens’ first cousin, once removed. If your first cousin had a child, that child would be your childrens’ second cousin. And so forth.
 
In summary, “removed” means there’s a difference in generations, the numeric position refers to where it splits. A cousin twice removed would be two generations older than you.
