I think in some respects Principal Celestia is who Princess Celestia wishes she could be: still having some power and responsibility, but without the weight of an entire world on her shoulders, and viewed by others as a peer rather than a god.

Being fair, however smart Principal Celestia is, expecting her to be able to defend against magic is rather unfair.
 
I like her too, especially since she’s different in a lot of ways to regular Celestia. It’s a nice comparison.

And that’s really my problem with EqG as a whole: It’s pointless.
 
Even disregarding the quality or lack thereof of the movies, regardless of your opinion. There is nothing extra that Equestria Girls brings to the table. Pretty much anything that can be done in EqG can be done in MLP just as well, if not better. The only new things it brings to the table are High-school stories, and A: We have seen all of it, and B: It’s still limited by the fact that the world, save for a few select individuals, is devoid of magic.
 
I mean, making a show about the Power Ponies makes more sense, at least they can do Superhero stuff that you can’t really do in FiM.
