When you stop being in high school, high schoolers become IMPOSSIBLE to take seriously.

One can argue that they are not quite the same characters. The EG Flutters may be way more advanced in controlling her fears.

Highschool teenagers aren’t people.

Basically, it’s hard to tell how the writers will portray her from one episode to the next. I’ll always be a fan of hers, but they cause me no end of consternation with this stuff.

EqG Fluttershy was noticeably more outspoken than her pony counterpart.

they are SIMILAR people. they are completely different species, for one, and the fact that they were even similar is impressive. For an alternate universe to be that close, there’s probably an outside force at work aligning the two, but that’s not necessarily a perfect thing.

The different people argument doesn’t work. They’re supposed to be the same character in a different universe and they should act the same.

They are maybe the same character, but they certainly aren’t the same person. Meaning EQG Fluttershy isn’t the same as pony Fluttershy. So they don’t have to act the same all the time, since they are from different universes.

It is also possible that she suffered from a regression since singing with her friends. Anxiety disorders (like most mental illnesses) tend to have a lot of regressions

Pony Fluttershy has sung in front of crowds a few times and humanoid Fluttershy is shown singing to a crowd in the Rainbow Rocks preview-teaser thing.

Because the adult pony that’s lived in a cottage in the country with animals is going to be exactly like the teenage girl currently attending high school.

Lets just be honest. High school causes a lot of mental traumas. So lets just assume she got it from there.  
She’s afraid to preform in front of a whole group but only with a lot of support. In the play it was all about the story and she was the same as any faceless person. In the equestria games it’s all about rainbow dash.

As said below, they’re not the same Fluttershy.

She could just get shy when she is on stage
