Nope. Eve Online is a subscription MMO. It’s a game that fundamentally could not work with any other model.
Only if you’re a highsec carebear. The real EVE Online experience is found in nullsec space
My favorite is the one about the first “supervillain” that ran a massive banking system, only to one day steal it all, buy the biggest ships and hide somewhere in the galaxy
Almost nobody loses real money to their spaceships being vaporized. The estimates are made by a roundabout conversion based on the in-game market value of a PLEX (30 days worth of game time), which costs $17.50 to buy.
I just like hearing the stories about trolls vaporizing thousands of real dollars for kicks whenever I need to vindicate my refusal to play MMOs.
It’s pretty damn interesting to hear about from afar though.

Play EVE Online only if you really really like mining asteroids.
