I have fishing rods, hell I had a little boat with a trolling motor back when I was closer to a lake. I didn’t eat anything I caught, actually I didn’t keep anything I caught. It was all about the challenge and the sport really.

@Background Pony
I think turning a character into a princess or making a side-movie where the lead dimension-jumps into a quasi-human world is a TOUCH different from opening up the moral ramifications of humans eating meat while the pony reacts in horror, realizing that the same creatures she’s likely spoken to on numerous occasions in Ponyville are currently sitting grilled and prepared on a plate.

Which might naturally bring out the truth that in the human world, cows (and for that matter, horses) are dumb non-sentient animals.

One can imagine this being a shock to the senses for poor Twilight, and instantly drive a wedge between her and her new human friends.

Sure, it would be interesting as all hell from a philosophical point of view, and in a proper episode might make for some potent stuff, but in the context of THIS movie’s plot, it would have driven things WAY too far off the rails to just ignore.

Say what you might about the decisions the writers have made in regard to the series overall, but when they DID stuff like this, they had a single-minded focus and didn’t veer off into massive plot cul-de-sacs.

Nah, isn’t shown to happen, though it’s not denied that it DID either. She clearly has a burger on her tray in this scene, though we never see what becomes of it. I think the writers decided opening up THAT can of worms would be WAY too much to just wave-off, and would detract from the focus of the story.

But who knows, maybe if the spinoff series actually gets made we’ll have stuff like that get turned into full episodes, though admittedly that’s a touch controversial for a kid’s show, especially given the grim connotations.
