Getting 2 episodes, with one being a two parter is as much focus as with Spike or Starlight. So it’s not very sparse. He supposedly to get 1+ 2parter this season too.
That could’ve been very funny, true.
Actual bonding between these two is something I never looked at, to be honest, but it could work. It’s not like Discord has a real job either.
Would that have necessarily been a bad thing?

Well, I’m not sure how constructive this would be, but I’m sure Zephyr Breeze has plenty of funny stories from when he and Fluttershy were foals, most of them potentially embarrassing for somepony. “Hey D, I tell you yet about when she thought she’d fly better if she tied a kite to herself? So she tries that, it doesn’t work, and she goes and gets, swear to Celestia, another kite. And another, and another, every time, and by the end of the day she’s got so many kites on her…”
We haven’t seen him since What about Discord?
Minus that alternate timeline cameo in the finale.

But what’s wrong with that? He doesn’t live with Fluttershy. Wouldn’t Discord being there distracted from the rest of the episode?
Less that he would have added anything, and more that he was conveniently absent.
You know, other than because they wanted Discord to torture Zephyr. Some constructive addition he could’ve made, some way he could’ve contributed to the moral.
Knowing her parents, they would think that he is her boyfriend. Maybe DHX tried to avoid that.
“Oh dear, I always confuse the two. I’ll just add a few manticores to the salon. I’m sure he won’t mind.”
Really? Jabberwocks do not adore manicures. They enjoy Manticores. A big difference.
This would have been an interesting scene to see.
